Repair your Hardwood Floors

As in everything in life, proper care can dramatically improve the condition of anything. This is especially true with maintenance and when your repair your hardwood floors. The proper care and precautionary measures can increase the lifespan far beyond that of its warranty. Here we’ll discuss how to keep your floors in top shape with minimal work and expense. Let us start off by saying we can’t guarantee these methods will make your floors last a hundred years. However, the time they do last they’ll be some very good-looking floors.  With that out of the way, we can begin. Firstly, always use products that are made exclusively for hardwood floors. You paid for the best, and you will continue to do so until they are worn out. So use only products that specifically name hardwood flooring in their label. This is so that no damage will occur to your floors due to the misuse of other cleaners. To this end, never use water or ammonia-based cleaning products. Damaging your floors due to incorrect cleaning agents is a problem we see all too often here at Century Custom Hardwood Floors in Los Angeles.

Whether it’s water damage, buckling, loose floor boards, discoloration, termite damage, broken pieces, holes or chips – no job is too big or too small.  Our exclusive family and operated wood flooring company in Los Angeles can repair your hardwood floors  for a fraction of what it costs to install new flooring.  Our certified flooring technicians have been trained using the National Wood Floors Association’s  guidelines and we put their standards into practice when we repair your hardwood floors at your home or office.  So if you live closer to a beach city like Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu, Marina del Rey, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Huntington Beach or Pacific Palisades and your floors suffer from buckling or water damage caused by moisture in the air, our Hardwood Heroes are here to rescue you!

In the mean time, read these great maintenance tips to prevent any possible damage to your floors:

For the regular cleaning cycle, there are various suggestions and recommendations I would make. I would wholeheartedly recommend that you sweep your floors every day. This will reduce the amounts of contaminants on your floor, specifically dirt and grit that are the main cause of wear and tear on hardwood floors. Along with sweeping daily, mopping weekly or bi-weekly is also strongly suggested. Mopping with a hardwood floor-friendly cleaning agent will help prevent the accumulation of dirt and grit, and will leave your floors nice and shiny.

Buffing is also highly recommended about every three months or so. Buffing will repair any minor damage and will also help prevent future damage from occurring to the floor. Fortunately for you, Century Floors offers a buffing service that is both quick and affordable. The buffing we provide takes usually only one day or less, and it’s worth every penny.

On the non cleaning aspects, I have several suggestions that may put you at odds with other members of the residence/office or even yourself. High-heeled shoes can be extremely damaging to hardwood floors, because they can easily penetrate the protective coatings as well as dent the floors due to the increased pressure. Likewise, pets are not recommended on hardwood floors. If you must allow your pets to roam where these are, then clip their claws/nails. This will reduce the impact and scratching.

Areas that receive a high amount of traffic, such as doorways, entryways or hallways should always be covered by a cross-stitch area rug, or a rubber mat. This will noticeably decrease the wear on this part of the floor, and it will keep it in better condition.

As you can see, most, if not all, of these steps are very easy to follow. Not only will they preserve your floors for longer, but these tips cost very little money.
